(Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce):
The controlling office for all Exporters and Importers in India. The authorities
here deal with all policy matters relating to Import/Export and also monitor
the trade deficit and forex transactions. Applications are processed here
for all the export and import related work like IEC registrations, Advance
Licences, Duty Drawback, Deemed Export Benefit Claims, refund of terminal
excise, etc.
Ministry
of Finance, Department of Revenue:
Deals with India’s
Customs & Excise tariffs. The customs duty is levied on many imported
goods. Liaison with sea ports, airports and dry ports authorities, commissionerate
of Customs and Excise commisionerate for clearance, samples drawing, stuffing
permission, ordering the container, supervising the stuffing/destuffing
and seealing of the containers.
Ministry
of Food Processing Industries:
Registers all manufacturers
and merchant exporters who deal in processed foods.
Export
Promotion Councils:
Registration is required with one
of the following councils, depending on the type of products to be exported:

| ECGC (Exports Credit Guarantee Corporation), an agency which covers the credit risk and approves a guarantee on overseas buyers against export shipments. | |
| AGMARK, an agency which gives quality certification for food products, spices, dairy produce, etc. | |
| EIA (Export Inspection Agency), the agency from which the Certificate of Origin (GSP) can be obtained for export shipments. | |
| SGS (Societe Generalle de Paris), an internationally reputed quality control and certification agency for export/import shipments. | |

| Trade Mark registration authority for getting the logo and brand name registration. | |
| Insurance company for arranging marine-cum-transit insurance. |
